Giclée Fine Art Reproductions

Robin Imaging has been producing high quality color prints for the most discriminating photographers and artists for over 40 years. We have combined our color expertise with new digital technology to produce the highest quality art reproductions available

Limited Run Prints

The cost of a press can easily run into the thousands of dollars. Using Robin’s Fine Art Reproductions, that cost can be significantly reduced. You can limit your initial investment and then purchase more prints as you need them. Our Giclée prints also have a larger color gamut than traditional press runs.

Color Matching

There is no such thing as an exact color match. A copy can never exactly match the original: when the original and the reproduction are put side-by-side, there will always be visual differences. Each media has its own color characteristics and each device has its own limitations, making it impossible for prints produced by two different techniques to exactly match each other.

Papers and Canvas

Robin offers numerous choices of premium media. The following are our most popular.

Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Ultra Smooth

A 100% cotton paper that offers the highest archival standards. It has a smooth surface texture and an extremely large color gamut. Photo Rag® Ultra Smooth lends itself particularly well to premium photo prints.

Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl

This is a 100% alpha-Cellulose paper with optical brighteners allowing the brightest whites available in a fine art paper. It has a smooth, uniform surface texture with a unique pearl coating. It is especially suitable for black and white and color photography.

Somerset Velvet

Acid free, 100% cotton rag with a radiant white surface for rich details and accurate reproduction. This paper has slightly more tooth than Photo Rag.

Crane Textured 225g

A cold press 100% cotton rag eggshell colored paper with the look of old world handmade paper. This paper has the most texture of all our papers.

Enhanced Matte

A 10.3 mil 192 g/m2 matte paper that looks and feels similar to Giclée papers. It has a bright white base that accentuates highlights.

Matte Canvas

This canvas has the look and feel of traditional artists canvas. If you want a more dramatic contrastier look it can be sprayed with a gloss or luster spray.

Finishing

Stretching

Canvas prints can be stretched ready to frame on 5/8” or 1” stretcher bars, or can be done as a gallery wrap suitable to hang without framing. Our gallery wrap is available in 5/8”, 1”, 1.5”, and 2” thicknesses.

Spraying

It is not required that canvases be sprayed, but we recommend it to extend their life and protect them from damage. Unprotected prints are much more susceptible to damage by moisture and UV light. We offer sprays in gloss, satin, and matte. The choice of sheen will affect the dynamic range of the finished piece.

Fine art papers can also be sprayed. This is highly recommended for any artwork that will not be protected by UV absorbing glass. The spray we use for fine art papers will not change the surface texture, but will double the life of an unprotected print.

Texture Enhancement

We offer two levels of texture enhancement for canvas prints. The basic enhancement adds more depth to the painting. The deluxe enhancement adds a brush stroke that more closely follows the lines in the painting, giving it a more realistic appearance. Both add depth and richness to the finished piece.

Framing

Robin offers a full line of custom framing to complement any painting.

Samples

It is much easier to visualize how your work will reproduce when you see samples. We have samples of all of our materials and finishes available for you to review.

Life Expectancy

Display Conditions

The life expectancy of all inks and dyes is greatly impacted by display conditions. The life expectancy is affected by the both amount of light and the number of hours per day that it is exposed to it.

Canvas

Canvas prints should be overcoated with a protective spray. Canvas prints should not be displayed in damp or humid conditions unless thoroughly coated, front and back, with a high quality overcoating. When sprayed and displayed properly our canvas prints should last 100 years without significant fading.

Fine Art Papers

Fine art papers should be framed using acid free materials and displayed behind glass. When displayed under the proper conditions they should last 100 years without significant fading. If the print will not be displayed behind glass we recommend a protective overcoat be applied. This will not change the finish.

Steps in the Premium Edition Reproduction Process

Determine Your Goals

This is the most important part of the process. Our customer service advisor will talk with you to determine your needs and preferences. Based on your artistic vision, we will advise you on the best alternatives.

To assure ample time for our customer service representative to meet with you, it is helpful to call ahead and arrange a time.

Scan

Robin Imaging has one of the most advanced and complete copy facilities in the country. We can copy most any type of original at resolutions far in excess of what other imaging services can produce.

Pre-production

All of Robin’s input and output devices are carefully profiled to produce the color as accurately as possible. Since some colors can be difficult to reproduce, we combine our color knowledge with our understanding of your goals to obtain the look you are trying to achieve.

If desired we can add titles, fix flaws, or make modifications. Prices vary with the amount of work required.

Proofs

Proofs are made on the same material as the finished product for you to review and approve. If requested, we will make corrections and a second proof. Please allow 3 days for the first proof and 3 days for additional proofs. Additional corrections and proofs beyond two are $40 per proof.

Corrections Sign Off

Basic overall color and density corrections are included. If corrections require masking or other specialized methods we will provide an estimate of those costs. Once the proof meets your approval, it should be signed and returned before production begins. Proofs remain on file at Robin after the job is completed for reference on future orders.

Final Prints

The final print size should be specified for both image size and trim size (includes all borders). Prices are based on trim size.

Once the proof has been signed and returned, production time is normally three days.

Reorders

With our Deluxe Giclée prints we will archive the file and the signed proof for two years. This will allow us to match the original print on future orders and avoid the costs of scanning and proofing. Additional prints ordered within twelve months of the last order will not be charged the first print price

If this is to be a limited edition, please tell us the maximum number of prints that you wish to be produced. We will keep track of your orders and keep you advised how many have been printed.

Since each batch of materials and inks has slight variances there may be some minor differences when reordering. If a material is discontinued we will come as close to the original order as we can with the materials available.

Limit of Liability

Even with the best of care, sometimes accidents happen. If damage should occur, our limit of liability is $500 per piece, up to a maximum of $1000 per order. You have the option of purchasing additional insurance at $0.25 per $100 of coverage, up to $1,500 per piece. This must be done at the time you place your order.

Some artwork is so fragile that almost anything could damage it. We will provide the utmost care, but these originals will only be accepted with no liability on our part. There is an additional charge for the special handling required by fragile or wet art.

Robin Imaging Classic Giclée

For those customers that do not have time, or do not want to go through the proofing process, our technicians will go through the same process as we do for the Premium Giclée, but rather than having you come in to review the proof our technicians will review them and make corrections. This produces an overall good color, but individual colors may not match the original. It should not be used when color is critical or specific hues need to be matched. We cannot guarantee your colors will match your expectation and encourage the use of Premium Giclée if you are critical about your color.

Classic Giclée prints are not archived. Orders placed for additional prints at a later time will be billed as if they are a new print order.

Robin Imaging Standard Giclée

Standard Giclée prints are balanced to yield a pleasing color. Individual colors are not corrected to match specific colors in the artwork. Unless you are holding the original artwork next to the reproduction you would most likely be unaware of any differences. This is our standard service and there are no upfront charges.

Use Standard Giclée:

  • For photographs
  • Artwork when critical color matching is not required.
  • When archiving is not necessary. Prints ordered at a later time will be billed as a new job and may not match the original order.

If you need any of the above, see our Deluxe Giclée price sheet.
